IAN BERRY PORTRAITS / DENIM ARTIST

Ian Berry is a unique artist who works with a unique medium—denim. From afar, this British artist’s work appears as blue toned paintings. Up close and in person, one realizes that his fiber art is comprised of multiple layers and many shades of denim jeans.

We worked with Ian on this commercial assignment during the American Quilters SocietyQuiltWeek, an international showcase and competition for fiber artists, an event that attracts thousands to Paducah, Quilt City U.S.A., each spring.

We envisioned the photographs of Ian to be much like his work—multilayered and intricate, yet with an overall message of simplicity. We definitely weren’t blue about the results! We photographed Ian within his installation piece, crafting portraits that focused on the artist while also representing his work.

Ian now has a set of versatile images—from editorial photographs to environmental portraiture to documentary photography—that he can use for multiple purposes—from social media platforms to websites to press releases. The work we created has been featured on the BBC Network, Carved In Blue, and Denim & Jeans publications to name just a few.
